In the Fall of 2023, First Peoples Law and United Chiefs and Councils of Mnidoo Mnising made presentations to the five First Nations who are parties to the Claims against Canada known as the Manitoulin Project. The First Nations who are parties to the Agreement are Aundeck Omni Kaning, M'Chigeeng, Sheguiandah, Sheshegwaning, and Zhiibaahaasing. These presentations were regarding the ongoing negotiations and the potential of a upcoming settlement.

On December 20, 2023, Canada agreed to compensate the five First Nation parties to the Manitoulin Project and March 2nd, 2024 was set as the Ratification Vote date. Community Information Sessions began in January 2024 to inform community members about the proposed Settlement Agreement and the upcoming scheduled ratification vote.
