The First Nation parties to the Manitoulin Project are: Aundeck Omni Kaning, M'Chigeeng, Sheguiandah, Sheshegwaning, and Zhiibaahaasing.

The Manitoulin Project Settlement was reached by United Chiefs and Councils of Mnidoo Mnising, First Peoples Law and Canada working together in the spirit of respect, recognition of rights, co-operation, and partnership to resolve historical wrongs. As such the five (5) First Nations are working together to come to an agreement on how the settlement will be shared.
A ceremony to acknowledge all those past and present who have worked on achieving this milestone was held in Aundeck Omni Kaning on October 26, 2024. At this ceremony, the Honourable Gary Anandasangaree, Minister of Crown–Indigenous Relations, on behalf of the Government of Canada, formally apologized to Aundeck Omni Kaning, M’Chigeeng, Sheguiandah, Sheshegwaning and Zhiibaahaasing First Nations for past wrongs relating to the Crown’s mismanagement of their monies in the late 1800s and the negative impacts experienced by the five communities as a result.
